Let me explain
The project, valued at $60m (about SAR 225m), aims to collect and convey rainwater away from residential streets and low-lying areas and to reduce flood risk during heavy rainfall. The scope includes manholes, stormwater catch basins and connections to existing manholes, as well as the restoration of road surfaces. In a network like this, catch basins at the kerb take in surface water, manholes give access to the pipes for cleaning and maintenance, and pipes and tunnels carry the water by gravity to a safe outlet. Prince Fawaz is a residential district in southern Jeddah, divided into northern and southern sections. The municipality is also advancing a second stormwater drainage project, the first package of Zone (BC) in Old Zahraa, valued at about $30m, with bids submitted on 16 September according to a source. Both are part of a wider drainage programme that includes the flagship King Abdullah Road and Falasteen Road tunnel project, where Saudi contractor Thrustboring Construction Company was selected for phases one and two, each valued at about $175m, covering large-diameter stormwater drainage tunnels. As of August, an official agreement had yet to be signed (MEED, 14 October 2026).
