WHY IT MATTERS

Let me explain

The contract was tendered in August with an initial deadline of 8 October. The design consultant has completed phase one (concept design); phase two covers design development, detailed design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning and close-out. The scope includes 30 landside buildings, including 16 screening areas and gates, and 15 airside buildings, including four gates: maintenance hangars, workshops, offices with fit-out, warehouses, security and catering facilities, aprons, access roads, utilities and civil works. The greenfield site is classified as landside within the airport boundary, with the airport supplying primary utilities to tie-in points. King Salman International Airport covers about 57 km², allows for six parallel runways, includes the existing King Khalid International Airport terminals and targets up to 100 million passengers and 2 million tonnes of cargo a year by 2030 (MEED, 15 October 2026).
