The Mukaab in Riyadh: a 400 m building, with work paused for review

The Mukaab is the landmark at the heart of the New Murabba project in northwest Riyadh: 400 m high, wide and long, with about 2 million m² of floor space, on a 19 km² project site. Its design is inspired by modern Najdi architecture, with a tower atop a spiral base and an immersive digital experience.

WHY IT MATTERS

Let me explain

In January 2026 Reuters reported that work had been suspended after excavation and piling for a review of financing and feasibility. The project has not been cancelled: development of the district continues, superstructure contracts have not yet been awarded, and contractor proposals are expected in 2027. The New Murabba completion target has moved from 2030 to 2040.
