WHY IT MATTERS

Let me explain

The main construction contract was awarded in October 2024 to a joint venture of Spain's FCC Construction and Nesma & Partners, valued by MEED at about SR 15 billion (other reports cited SR 4 billion). Work began in December 2024; excavation is largely complete and foundations are well advanced (Gulf Construction, October 2026), and in September 2026 the SR 829 million mechanical works package was awarded to Elegancia Arabia. Designed by Populous, the stadium seats 46,979 according to the bid book, and Qiddiya describes it as the world's first stadium to combine a retractable roof, pitch and LED wall, switching between football and concerts within hours. It will be home to Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr, with completion targeted for 2029 according to the bid book.
