Riyadh Sports Boulevard: 83 km of the 135 km linear park now open

The Sports Boulevard is a 135 km linear park linking Wadi Hanifah in the west to Wadi Al Sulai in the east along Prince Mohammed bin Salman Road. It includes 4.4 million m² of green and open space, facilities for more than 50 sports, and a 130 m sports tower with a 98 m indoor climbing wall.

WHY IT MATTERS

Let me explain

The first phase, 83 km long, opened in February 2025, and work continues. A key work is the King Abdulaziz Road underpass, which takes traffic underground so the boulevard can cross above it; its excavation was 88% complete in July 2026. The design is by a team led by Coen+Partners with Foster + Partners, with engineering by Buro Happold.

Riyadh Metro: 94 new trains and a Red Line extension to Diriyah

At the government press conference on Monday 12 October 2026, attended by the Minister of Media, Eng. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, reviewed mobility in the capital. The public transport network is approaching 500 million riders since launch, more than 300 million of them on the Riyadh Metro, with more than 20 million trips by school and university students.

The Mukaab in Riyadh: a 400 m building, with work paused for review

The Mukaab is the landmark at the heart of the New Murabba project in northwest Riyadh: 400 m high, wide and long, with about 2 million m² of floor space, on a 19 km² project site. Its design is inspired by modern Najdi architecture, with a tower atop a spiral base and an immersive digital experience.

King Salman International Airport: a 4.2 km third runway under construction

King Salman International Airport is being built on the site of King Khalid International Airport in north Riyadh and takes in its existing terminals. It covers about 57 km², its masterplan has room for six parallel runways, and the target is 185 million passengers a year by 2050.
