Architecture series, episode 1: The Twist, Norway

Designed by BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) for the Kistefos Museum in Jevnaker and opened in September 2019, The Twist is an art gallery and a bridge at once, spanning 60 metres across the Randselva river.

WHY IT MATTERS

Let me explain

The building turns 90 degrees in the middle to connect two riverbanks of different heights. It covers about 1,000 square metres and holds three galleries: a closed gallery to the south, the Twist gallery in the middle where the ceiling becomes a wall, and a panorama gallery overlooking the river to the north.
