WHY IT MATTERS

Let me explain

Line 7 will be about 65 km long with 19 stations, 14 underground and five above ground, and a maximum speed of 120 km/h. It will link Qiddiya, King Abdullah International Gardens, King Salman Park, Misk City and Diriyah Gate, and it will interchange with the Line 2 extension at Diriyah Central. The scope includes track, signalling, civil works and a maintenance depot at Diriyah North. The bidders are Alstom with Webuild, Nesma and China Harbour Engineering Company; Siemens with FCC, Orascom Construction and Shibh Al-Jazira Contracting; Hitachi Rail with Larsen & Toubro, Albawani, Kalyon and Cengiz; and CRRC with Mapa and Limak. Best and final offers were submitted on 21 June 2026. According to MEED Projects, the project is valued at about $15bn, with the award expected in November 2026 and completion in March 2029. A separate project management consultancy contract, estimated at $800m to $900m, was awarded in July 2025 to the Arriyadh New Mobility consortium led by Webuild. The first phase of Riyadh Metro has six lines and 84 stations (MEED, 24 June 2026; MEED Projects, September 2026; TrainsNews, 7 October 2026).
