New electricity and water tariffs in Saudi Arabia from 1 January 2027: what changes for your bill

Saudi Energy and the National Water Company announced on 25 October 2026 new electricity and water tariffs for all sectors, effective 1 January 2027. Home electricity rises from 18 to 21 halalas per kWh up to 6,000 kWh a month, with a new fixed monthly charge of SAR 70 to 100 based on breaker size.

WHY IT MATTERS

Let me explain

Above 6,000 kWh a month, home electricity becomes 33 halalas instead of 30. The fixed monthly charge replaces the old meter fee: SAR 70 for a breaker of 20 to under 100 A, 80 for 100 to under 200 A, 90 for 200 to under 300 A, and 100 for 300 A and above. Example: a home using 1,000 kWh a month with a breaker under 100 A paid SAR 180 for consumption; after the change it pays 210 plus 70 fixed, SAR 280, before VAT (the old meter fee is not included in the 'before' figure). Home water moves to four tiers: SAR 1 per m3 up to 15 m3, 2 up to 30, 4 up to 45 and 6 above that, with wastewater at half these rates plus a fixed monthly charge. A royal order grants a SAR 500 monthly allowance to civilian and military employees, retirees and social security families. Tips: set the AC to 24 degrees, switch off unused appliances, and fix water leaks quickly. Figures are as reported by Saudi press, pending check against the Saudi Energy tariff page.
